Post-care:Helium-Neon laser therapy, a form of low-level laser therapy (LLLT), is non-ablative and typically does not require specific post-care instructions as the energy delivered is sub-thermal and does not damage the skin surface. Patients can generally resume normal activities immediately, with no special creams or ointments needed. The treatment does not make the skin photosensitive, so no restrictions on sun exposure beyond normal healthy habits are necessary.
Risks:HeNe lasers are low-power devices, typically classified as Class 2, 3R, or 3B. The primary risk is to the eye. Never look directly into the laser beam or at its reflection from a specular surface. Direct exposure, even for a fraction of a second, can cause permanent retinal damage. Laser safety eyewear appropriate for the 632.8 nm wavelength is required for Class 3R and 3B lasers. The risk of skin damage is extremely low to nonexistent due to the low output power (typically a few milliwatts). There is no risk of burns, scarring, or pigmentary changes. Unlike high-power aesthetic lasers, HeNe lasers do not pose a fire hazard.
