Downtime:3 days
Post-care:Follow post-procedure care instructions carefully, avoiding makeup, sunscreen, and other skincare products until the micro-core holes have closed (typically 2 days). Cleanse the treated area twice daily with a mild cleanser and pat dry, then apply a thin layer of petrolatum or physician-recommended ointment. Protect the skin from direct and prolonged sun exposure and avoid activities that cause overheating or excessive sweating for at least one week; apply ice to reduce any swelling.
Risks:Common temporary side effects: Redness (erythema, 90-100% of patients, resolves in 3-7 days); swelling (edema, 80-90%, peaks at 24-48 hours); pinpoint bleeding or bruising (70-80%, minor and self-resolving); mild crusting or scabbing (50-60%, lasts 5-7 days); temporary discomfort or itching (40-50%, managed with topicals). Rare but serious risks: Infection (e.g., bacterial or herpes reactivation, <1%); prolonged healing or delayed wound closure (<1%); hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation (<2%, more in darker skin types); scarring or textural changes (<1%); allergic reaction to anesthesia (<0.5%).
